The Great Confucius Statue, a life size bronze sculpture,
is sculpted by the renowned sculptor Willy Wang, who is an American Emmy Awards recipient, and a member of the National Sculpture Society and the Chinese Artists Society.
On
February 21st, 2009, Willy officially started his frame work of the
statue at his Southwest Houston studio. On May 6th, 2009, the clay
statue was molded into a rubber model and later casted into bronze at
a foundry in Bastrop.
On
September 26th, 2009, the Statue was dedicated to the City of Houston,
in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of establishment of 30th
anniversary of establishment of the Sino-US diplomatic relations and
the 2560 anniversary of the birth of Confucius.
